Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

How do I change my HP2 view?
User options like flight path and audio are available in the First Class edition of HP2.
If you have the first class edition, click to the PC or Mac instructions.

How do I get rid of that catalog screen?
The catalog screen is only seen in HP2's free edition, Coach Class. It appears once in a while during the first month after you've installed HP2 Coach Class... Then after a month, it appears much more often. That's right -- it's what we in the shareware business call a "nag screen". In other words, it's there to, ahem, remind you that there's a better paid product available with lots of cool features and more content.. If you upgrade to Holding Pattern First Class you won't see a catalog screen at all.

What's up with dreams/transitions? I selected one of these options and I haven't seen it yet...
The dream sequence transitions are kind of a second layer of content in the screen saver. They play very occasionally - about once every 20 minutes, depending on your flight path. They occur only when times of day transition: for example, night to morning--several scenes of night will play, with the small plane seen between each (by "scene", I mean a group of three foregrounds with the same view out the window). Then, as the screen saver transitions to morning, you should see a daydream sequence. There's more on this in the Holding Pattern manual PDF.

As the maker of HP, I don't intend for people to sit and watch the screen saver continually like a movie. I designed the screen saver to give you little surprises and keep you interested over time, and the daydreams are one of those surprises. There are also some easter egg scenes that occur VERY infrequently.

There are some settings which would help the daydream sequences occur more frequently:
1. Make sure your mac's "sleep" time is set to 1 hour or more. (Energy Saver settings)
2. Choose one of these flight paths: northern, cities, morning - these have only four or five scenes until the first daydream might occur. (The "all" flight path is the longest--with eight scenes.)

What are differences between the free and paid versions of HP?
Holding Pattern 2.0 Coach Class is a free cinematic screen saver which beautifully emulates the view from an airplane window.
Holding Pattern 2.0 First Class is the ultimate edition of Holding Pattern, at the inexpensive price of $17.50. It has 4 times the exquisite photographic content, and a full set of cool user options to customize your flight. Click here to learn more...

Where was that photo taken?
Click here to check out the HP2 credits PDF. It lists the photographers and locations for each photograph in the screen saver. (Click through to page 2 to see a thumbnail of each location)

I have this cool idea for Holding Pattern 3 or another cinematic screen saver...
Please tell me about it! I'm always looking for great cinematic screen saver ideas. In fact, I am building a way for user to actually contribute photography and ideas to my free and paid screen savers. In the mean while, please feel free to send me an email with your comments or suggestions.

My screen saver doesn't play as often as I'd like, it plays for a while then the screen goes black. What do I do?

You need to visit your PC's power options.
Use these controls to determine when your system powers down. This is like setting the end point for your screen saver - this will be when the screen goes black and your computer goes into power save mode. To see your screen saver as much as possible, set both energy saver controls to "Never" - but realize this will use more power.

1) Click the Start button
2) Select the Control Panel menu item
3)After the Control Panel Window opens, double-click on the Power Options control panel

I used a cleanup program on my system and Holding Pattern doesn't run properly anymore.
The most likely cause of this problem is that your cleanup program, while well-intentioned, has removed or damaged Flash Player on your system. Flash Player 8 or higher is essential for HP to run.

You can fix this by reinstalling Holding Pattern with your original installer ? this will install Flash Player 9. Or if you're installer's no longer available, visit Adobe's Flash Player download page:
